A former elementary school teacher and then nurse, Julia was the Educational Liaison for children with cancer and those who had survived their disease at the University of California San Francisco from 1993-2003. From 1994-2006, she also headed A Tomorrow for Children Foundation and worked in partnership with pediatric oncology centers in Latin America.
As an international nursing consultant and educator since 1994, Julia has collaborated in pediatric oncology nursing projects across low- and middle-income countries. Since earning her degree in medical anthropology in 2009, she brings that additional perspective to her work strengthening nursing leadership, resources and opportunities for nurses in countries such as Ethiopia and Latin America. Julia makes great efforts to mentor the nurses she works with in low- and middle-income countries to have a voice both in academic literature as well as international meetings and conferences.
